• Time flies and before you know it, one of our favourite days of the year, St Patrick’s Day, will be upon us. We can’t wait, but what about you? Have you got anything special planned?

If not, take a break from the norm and book a holiday for the big day now. Here are a few good excuses why, plus some of the coolest locations to enjoy on our national holiday.

Why you should book your St Patrick’s Day holiday now

This is one of the biggest events on the Irish calendar, so you should book your holiday now. There are plenty places that love a good St Paddy’s Day celebration just as much as we do.

The streets of Dublin will be packed with people full of Irish cheer, there’s no denying that. Yet if you travel overseas, you’ll find plenty of your compatriots looking to have the best of both worlds by toasting our patron saint somewhere sunny.

Best locations to spend St Patrick’s Day

Looking for a March 17th to remember? These are some of the best destinations to spend it in. Charge up your phone – you’ll be wanting to take lots of group selfies and may even want to go live on Facebook amid the celebrations.

    Tenerife

The Canary Island of Tenerife goes out of its way to make Irish holidaymakers feel right at home. This is particularly so in the southern resorts of Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas, where it’s all about the partying on our special day. The Hole in the Wall bar, in Playa de las Américas, is thought to pull the finest pint of Guinness in Tenerife – but that’s for you to investigate when you get there.

In Los Cristianos, the Claddagh Bar is all about the party vibe. Come 8pm, you’ll find it springs to life with open mic sessions plus scheduled live music until 2am. The bar also offers karaoke and plenty of beers to help you to warm up your vocal chords for the singing – should you need them! And with the free Wi-Fi, you can document the action live on social media once the party is in full swing.

    Lanzarote

Since Lanzarote is popular with Irish tourists, this Canary Island particularly looks forward to the big day. Every year, there’s a parade in Puerto del Carmen, plus a programme of events. It all begins with a ceremony that includes singing the Irish national anthem and a raising of the flag. From then on, you’ll see people marching through the town wearing green with pride, or driving through in vehicles adorned in Irish flags and colours.

For the rest of the day, there’s live music, dancing and, naturally, a couple of ales. The atmosphere is electric, making Lanzarote among the best places to visit on March 17. Why not give it a try?

The southern Spanish town of Benalmadena loves St Patrick’s Day, and it’s also a family-friendly destination. The day tends to start with a traditional mass around midday, and then it’s time to get the party started with the parade, which marches its way down to the ‘Feria’ ground by Paloma Park. Get ready for joyous live performances from Irish bands and Celtic dancers, as well as plenty of eating and drinking.

These are the places to be on March 17th. If you’re looking to do something that little bit different on your St Patrick’s Day, why not book a trip with us? It’ll be a celebration to remember.
