Choosing a wedding destination for your big day overseas can be a daunting task.

Will your family and friends be able to join you, how do you find a wedding planner, where’s the best place for a good chance of sunshine, how can you make your budget stretch? Deciding on a wedding overseas needn’t be stressful. Here are some top tips and popular destinations to get the ball rolling

    Venue

Before choosing your wedding location, ask yourself a few questions about what you want your wedding package to include and then go from there. Some destinations are more popular than others for weddings abroad and better equipped to host your big day.

Do you want a beach wedding or a church wedding for example? Would you rather stay in one location for the entire day, or are you happy to move around between the ceremony and the reception? Is having a weddings team on site important to you to oversee all the little details?

Once you and your partner have answered these questions it’ll be easier to know what to look out for when doing your research and looking at potential wedding venues.

    Destinations

How much you want to spend and how far you want to fly will be two of the big deciders when choosing your actual destination. Smaller groups might be inclined to travel further and short-haul flights might suit big families with children and elderly people attending.

    Mexico

Mexico is becoming a hot spot for weddings and honeymoons in one. Just one example of the perfect venue is Moon Palace Golf & Spa which has a complimentary wedding package for guests staying at the hotel, (terms and conditions apply). You’ll say your vows at a private beach ceremony, and can opt for finishing touches such as a horse drawn carriage.

    Greece

For a shorter flight time, consider tying the knot in Greece. With islands drenched in romantic history of myths and legends, there are plenty of places that make the perfect spot to get married abroad. For the best chance of sunshine, head to Rhodes. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the island offers spectacular sunset views over both the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. Ideal for families, The Holiday Village Rhodes offers a civil wedding package, (starting at €2,123). If you’ve got young children in your party, they’ll be kept happy with a variety of activities and facilities, like a huge splash park and a high ropes course.

    Spain

And closer to home again, the Balearic Islands of Majorca and Ibiza make great choices for symbolic ceremonies. Boho brides have been choosing Ibiza as their wedding destination for decades, but if you want a little more structure book a package complete with wedding co-ordinator  at TUI Sensatori Resort Ibiza overlooking the alabaster sand at Cala Tarida Bay, with that infamous sunset view. Packages priced from €1,664.
